PAIGE: Submit a completed application and upload your resume. Here’s why these elements are so important.
SHANE: Your profile is where you can check the status of your application and to learn about any tasks you may need to complete before moving forward in the process. Now we don’t want you to miss out on any potential opportunities, so check your profile often and again make sure your contact information is current – especially your email address since this is the most common way that we’ll contact you.
PAIGE: When it comes to your application, it’s critical that you fill it out completely! Incomplete applications may not move forward in the process, so double-check your application before clicking submit.
SHANE: Now let’s talk about your resume and why you should upload it when applying for positions. Think of your resume as a tool that you can use to stand out among other applicants. Use it to tell us about your skills and experiences and why you’re right for the position and for State Farm.
PAIGE: Depending on the job you applied for, you may be asked to complete pre-employment and/or language testing. The tests may be online or over the phone. It’s natural to feel a little nervous. So relax and do your best.
SHANE: If you’re selected for an interview, you’ll be invited to complete a video interview. Be sure to submit your completed interview by the deadline requested or within a few days if there’s not a specific deadline that way we know you’re still interested.
PAIGE: If you receive a job offer and you accept, you will be asked to complete a background check. These are time-sensitive tasks that need to be completed satisfactorily as a condition of your employment.
SHANE: We hope these tips are helpful. Though some may seem obvious, we’ve found that following these recommendations tends to put applicants on the best path forward for success.

Before applying for a position, spend some time learning about State Farm. Also research the job you’ve applied for and be prepared to tell us why your experience and skills make you the best candidate for the job. If you haven’t viewed our Success for Digital Interviewing video, consider doing that.
As you’re preparing for your interview, practice using “I” statements. “I” statements help us get to know you and what you bring to the table. Additionally, sharing experiences through storytelling techniques helps the interviewer relate your experiences to the requirements. One way to do this is the S.T.A.R. method. Which is using situations, tasks, actions and results that you’ve been a part of. Remember, your interview will help us get to know you better so prepare, practice and be confident!

This quick video includes some helpful pointers for nailing your video interview. Follow these five simple tips to set yourself up for success:
Tip one. Find A Quiet Place.
Being able to be heard is key to your success so find a quiet place with no distracting sounds or motions. Also, check your sound settings to ensure your audio isn’t muffled or too quiet for us to hear.
Tip two. Your background.
Once you’ve selected your location consider what your viewer will see besides you? Avoid busy backgrounds -- your environment should be clean and professional. You don’t have to go so far as using just a blank white wall, but remember – simpler is better and will keep the focus on you.
Tip three. Camera position.
Whatever device you’re connecting from; mobile, tablet or laptop, be sure to secure and stabilize your device in a way that you are able to be seen clearly. This also frees you up from having to steady the device with your hands. Be sure the camera is kept still at eye level as this is how people typically see you. If using a laptop with a built in or attached camera, consider propping it up on a box or a stack of books to keep the shot at eye level as well.
Tip four. Good lighting counts.
Ensuring the viewer can clearly see you is important and easy to do. During the day, face a window so you’re naturally lit from the front. If it’s too bright or dark, simply adjust the shades or curtains. If it’s night, put a light source in front of you. Dimmable lamps work great if you have them. Play with how close it needs to be to get the light just right.
Tip five: Dress appropriately.
When it comes to attire, we suggest a business casual look – something like this. To make a good impression, skip t-shirts, tank tops, hats and PJs.
