Kandiyohi County is in the central part of Minnesota. As of the 2010 census the population was 42,239 and the county seat is Willmar. Kandiyohi County is named after a Dakota word meaning “where the buffalo fish come.” It was organized in 1858. There are over 50 lakes located in the county. The County has no forest soils, just prairie ecosystems and savannas.

The County Jail provides for the safe, secure and humane detention of offenders in the county. The jail houses men and women adult inmates and security goes from medium to high. The facility holds up to 159 inmates.

Visitation Schedule, Mail, Calls and Funds

Visiting uses video visitation for inmate visits. You can go to inmatecanteen.com to request a visit. You must be registered. You can call from home for $.39 per minute up to 30 minutes every 8 hours. You can also come into the lobby, sign in at one of stations and visit for free for 30 minutes.

Visiting hours are:

Monday – Sunday between the hours of 9:00 am and 9:00 pm except for the following tine:
11:00 am – 12:30 pm, 2:15 pm – 2:45 pm, 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm. No visits on Friday after 4:30 in the lobby.

To drop off money for an inmate, come into the Kandiyohi County Jail. You will find a money kiosk tht accepts bills only. Money will be applied to the Inmate’s account immediately. You can also put money on an inmates account online at

The Kandiyohi County Jail also charges for inmates to stay in the jaul. Once an inmate is sentenced there will be a fee of $20 per day for every day they are in jail. You can pay at the end of your jail time at a 20% discount if paid within seven days of release. If not paid, the bill is sent to a collection agency.
